Spearfish High School Book Club... we READ, we THINK. we EXPRESS, we CONNECT.

MISSION: To form, express, and support opinions about literature in a verbal, social way.
WHO: All SHS students and staff.
WHEN: We meet in the library once a month during lunch.
WHY: Because we love reading!
HOW: We vote on a genre each month, individually pick out books that fall within that genre, read our chosen book, and then talk about it.
*Come to book club even you if haven't finished reading. Some insight is better than no insight.

The April genre is: YOUR CHOICE!
Next meet-n-eat in the library: Tuesday, April 28, 2015
ICE CREAM SUNDAES WILL BE PROVIDED!

DISCUSSION ETIQUETTE:
Word choice. Try to avoid strong, negative words which can put others on the defensive. Instead, talk about your experience with the book.
Politely disagree. Remember, there are many ways to interpret or experience a book.
Support your views. Specific passages = Evidence. This is a literary analysis technique called "close reading."
Give everyone a turn. Don’t cut people off and steer clear of dominating the talking space.
Respect others and yourself.
